JD X NIKE: MOVE TO ZERO

NIKE-MOVE-TO-ZERO-Blog-Post-0

Nike Air VaporMax 2020 Flyknit

Sustainability is Everything

Sustainability has always been a vital focus at Nike’s core. It’s an ethos that is embedded and scaled across Nike as a company and infused into every brand, category and product from start to finish. In doing so, creating a culture of sustainability across the company.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the Nike Air VaporMax 2020 Flyknit is constructed with at least 50% recycled content by weight. As part of the journey towards lowering our environmental impact, Nike is discovering new ways to put our waste to good use. By utilising leftover materials, recycled polyesters, and Nike Grind, the VaporMax 2020 Flyknit marks the next step towards the ultimate goal of zero carbon and zero waste.

Innovative Materials

Sustainability never rests. Nike is constantly rethinking and reinventing the materials that go into each and every one of their products and the Nike Vapormax 2020 is a shining beacon of that.

Nike Flyknit

Nike Flyknit is precision-engineered with an average of 60% less waste than traditional footwear upper manufacturing. In the fabrication of Flyknit, 31 million water bottles were diverted from landfills in 2019 alone.

Nike Air

Nike Air soles designed since 1994 contain at least 50% recycled manufacturing waste and since 2008 have been made with 100% renewable energy at our AirMI facilities. We reuse more than 90% of the waste from materials used for our Air soles to make new, innovative cushioning systems.

Recycled Polyester

Since 2010, Nike has diverted more than 7 billion plastic bottles from landfills. Our recycled poly is made from plastic bottles, pre-consumer textile scraps and post-consumer garments.

Sustainable Cotton

Since 2010, we’ve been on a drive toward 100% sustainable cotton. Certified organic cotton, recycled cotton and the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) are three ways that we are pushing sustainability in our materials.

Sustainable Blends

Combining recycled polyester and organic cotton creates a performance material that reduces carbon emissions and uses less water and chemicals than virgin polyester blends with conventionally grown cotton.
