Nike celebrates the past by re-envisioning it for the future with the release of the Nike Air Max 2090. Celebrating 30 years of being a beacon of the Air Max family, we were recently blessed with the Nike Air Max 90 365, which featured retro-fit updates to the shape, ringing true to the original sneaker launched in 1990. Looking forward, Nike leverages that same DNA that made the Air Max 90 a legend and re-tunes it with some forward thinking. Bringing modern tech upgrades and design updates, the Nike Air Max 2090 is created to embody what the future holds.
In-keeping with the same future thinking design ethos that ensured the Air Max 90 relevant, Nike continues to push the envelope with a few revamps. Colour blocking was a focal piece in the development of the Air Max 90, with the lightweight support largely see-through, the most supportive of materials are completely opaque to underscore the strength in the shoe’s support. The Air unit is inflated with a larger Air Bag and also sees a 200% larger window than it’s originator. With a similarly cropped swoosh design, the outsole tread lines are re-designed for 2020 performance.
While aspects of the sneaker have received a complete re-design, there are unmistakable odes to the Air Max 90 that have remained untouched. Pleasing Air Max 90 loyalists, the 2090 mudguard and signature cassette which surrounds the Air Unit remain untouched from the original. On first glance the iconic heel logo first employed by the Air Max 90 appears to boast an accurate recreation, however on closer inspection a new “Air” logo has taken the place of the signature “Nike Air” logo.
Inspired by the future of transportation, the launch colour-ways of the Nike Air Max 2020 will release at JD Sports stores and Online. Stay tuned for all release info as the drop date draws closer.
